Gracie placed 2nd in the steeplechase, 1st in the 1500m & 2nd in high jump. She competed against athletes from the states of Washington, Oregon and parts of Idaho and Alaska. On to Nationals!
My children participated in an all-comers track meet the other night. Pretty fun!
Here's a little video of some of their races (our battery was getting low so we didn't get everything & some of it was cut short). Also:
1. We were on the ferry on the clip in the van so don't worry if you see unbuckled children.
2. Yes, we need to work on Tessa's running form. She's only 2, people!
3. Yes, Tessa needs to learn to stay in her lane.
4. Lucy needs to not run next to girls who want to socialize during the 200m dash. (that girl's super cute!)
5. When watching footage of Josiah running the 200m, Gabe says to him, “You got CREAMED, Josiah!” and Josiah replies, “Hey! Those boys had deeper voices than YOU!”
6. It was super fun to have a little relay team made up of my own children. We weren't sure if they'd let them run it- it was co-ed but we weren't sure about the ages. Josiah, Millie, Gabe & Gracie all ran it and we were pleasantly surprised that not only did they NOT get last place, they almost caught the 2nd place finishers! The first place team was a team of high school boys. They did great & finished with a time of 4:49 or so. Battery was dead so didn't get to record the race. Bummer.
Here are the events they did:
Tessa (2)- 50m & 200m dash
Lucy (newly 5)- 50m, 200m dash & long jump
Julianna (7)- 50m, 200m dash & long jump
Josiah (11)- high jump, shot put (practicing for pentathlon!), 200m dash, kids mile & 4x400m relay.
So Gracie's foot healed up during basketball season & she slowly eased back into sports after having to be off of her foot for 8 weeks. She's in track season now & doing well!
Here are some various newspaper clippings from this month.
Gracie & the four 1st place medals she earned for the 1500m & 2000m steeplechase at the association and regional meets in Junior Olympics. Yeah, she's pretty much a stud. (studette?)
Gracie placed 1st in the 2000m Steeplechase at the association meet in Seattle, which qualified her to run at the regional meet in Portland. She ran it today and placed FIRST again with a time of 7:37.2! She qualified for the National meet! (we won't be able to go though :( -it's in Florida) She wanted a picture in the water pit to show how deep it is.
She also went on to win the 1500m at the Regional meet with a time of 4:57.43!! She amazes me! Awesome job, Gracie!
Gracie placed 2nd in the 3000 with a time of 11:16 & 5th in the 1500m with a time of 5:08 at the regional USATF Junior Olympic meet. Nationals are next!
FIRST PLACE in the 800m: 2:39! She beat her own personal record by 5 seconds!
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAHmocswXkM) We are thankful that after all of her hard work and then getting pneumonia in the middle of the season, she was able to finish strong today. She did awesome & we're very proud of her!
